Junction 35 links the M1 to the A629 for Chapeltown and Rotherham. Thorpe Hesley and Chapeltown are right beside it, and Hoyland is about three miles north. Wentworth Woodhouse, one of England's largest country houses, is about two miles north-east. Elsecar Heritage Centre is about three miles north.

Wentworth Woodhouse is a Grade I listed stately home with a frontage of about 606 feet, often described as the longest of any country house in England.
