Junction 45 links the M1 to the A63 East Leeds Link Road, a fast route into the city centre. Rothwell is about two miles south. The Royal Armouries museum is about three miles north-west. The RSPB's St Aidan's nature park is about three miles south-east, and Rothwell Country Park about a mile south.

If you live in Rothwell or work in the east of Leeds, this may be the junction you join in the morning and come back to at night. Visitors to the country park and the museums nearby use it too.
